NEW SHOW OVERVIEW

As of now, there will be 21 new shows airing on English conventional channels this Winter/Spring season (though we predict more will be announced in the coming weeks – especially from Corus). In the meantime, let’s start by commenting on the shows that have been announced to date.

By far, the majority (12) are one-hour dramas followed by 6 comedies and a game show, reality show, and science fiction, respectively.

CITY TV is adding to its comedic line-up with 1 new entry (LA to Vegas) as well as 2 new dramas (The Resident, Versailles) in hopes of building audiences in Western Canada.

CBC is debuting 5 new dramas this season, 4 of which are Canadian originals (Burden of the Truth, The Detectives, Caught, Crawford) and 1 hails from ITV in the UK (The Secret).

Global to date has announced 1 new drama (Instinct) and is in keeping with its “action-escapism” strategy. More shows will likely be announced as the season rolls out.

CTV has 1 new Canadian drama (The Detail) and 3 new American hour-long dramas (For the People, Deception, Grey’s Anatomy Spinoff). CTV also offers up more variety with entries in the comedy, reality, game show, and sci-fi genres (Roseanne, The Launch, Ellen’s Game of Games, The Crossing) while still adhering to its non-violent approach to programming.
