Media Experts raises $80,000 for local charity On Our Own
Last night at Club Soda Joey Elias and a roster of comedians led a master class in comedic entertainment for a worthy cause. This year’s sixth edition of Media Experts presents An evening of hilarity for the benefit of On Our Own (O3) raised $80,000 – beating last year’s amount raised by $15,000 and setting a new record for their annual comedy benefit show.
The hilarious lineup of entertainers included many of Montreal’s brightest comedy all-stars joining Joey onstage: host Abdul Butt, Reese Turner, Jacy Lafontaine, and Paul Baluyot. Over 400 attendees were schooled in laughing out loud during an evening of non-stop laughs for this important cause.
“Media Experts prides itself on a longstanding tradition of helping others within our own community,” says Mark Sherman, CEO of Media Experts. “For us, it’s a privilege to get together and raise these much-needed funds so that O3 can continue to change lives right here in our own backyard.”
With Media Experts footing the bill for event logistics, and the comedians donating their time and talent, 100% of the funds raised from the comedy benefit evening go to funding Montreal-based On Our Own’s invaluable programs that provide critical support services and affordable transitional housing for young, at-risk moms and their babies. With this help, these moms are able to develop the life skills they need to live independently.
Fueled by sponsorships from the Canadian media community, private donations and Montreal comedy fans of all stripes, this year’s donations brings the grand total raised to date to $ 295,000 – funds that allows O3 to continue making a difference for those in need. “The annual donation from this event represents the single largest infusion of funds that O3 receives per year,” says Sacha Liben, President of O3. “We have seen first-hand the positive benefits that this essential gift of funding has on each of our resident families. We wish to extend our thanks to everyone who, through this donation, allows us to continue to improve the quality of life for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”
